Who we are
The Skipper’s Brief (theskippersbrief.com), based in Finland, is the controller of the personal data described here. Contact: [email protected].
This website
The site sets no cookies and runs no advertising or analytics scripts. The videos play from our own media storage (Cloudflare R2), and the site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare processes your IP address and basic request data to deliver the site and protect it from attacks; we don’t store or use those logs ourselves.
Email signup
If you sign up for the weekly brief, we store:
- your email address,
- the date and time you signed up, and the consent text you agreed to.
Why and on what basis. Only to send you the weekly brief, and to keep a record that you asked for it. The legal basis is your consent (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw it at any time; that doesn’t affect emails already sent.
Where it’s kept. In a Cloudflare D1 database located in the EU, accessible only to us. Cloudflare acts as our processor under its data processing agreement.
How long. Until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. After you unsubscribe we keep only a record that your address opted out, so we don’t email you again, unless you ask us to delete that too.
Who sees it. No one else. We don’t sell or share your email address, and we don’t use it for advertising or profiling. If we start using an email-sending service to deliver the brief, it will process your address on our behalf only, and we will name it here first.
Social media publishing
We use the official Meta (Facebook and Instagram), YouTube and TikTok APIs only to publish our own videos to our own accounts and to read the view counts of those posts. We don’t collect data about the people who watch or comment. Those platforms’ own privacy policies apply when you use them.
International transfers
Cloudflare is a US company with a global network. Where data is processed outside the EU/EEA, Cloudflare relies on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
Your rights and data deletion
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- tell you what data we hold about you and give you a copy,
- correct it,
- delete it, or stop emailing you.
Email [email protected]. We reply within 30 days and won’t treat you differently for asking. Every email we send will include an unsubscribe link.
EU, EEA and UK residents also have the right to restrict or object to processing and to data portability, and you can complain to a data protection authority, in Finland the Data Protection Ombudsman (tietosuoja.fi), or the authority where you live.
US residents (including California, Virginia, Colorado and other states with privacy laws): we don’t sell or share personal information for targeted advertising, and we don’t use sensitive personal information. You can use the rights above through the same email address, including through an authorised agent.
Children
The brief is meant for adults. We don’t knowingly collect data from anyone under 16; if you think a child has signed up, tell us and we’ll delete the address.
Changes
If this policy changes, we’ll update the date above, and tell subscribers by email before any change to how we use their address.
